BOOK REVIEW: Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Publication Date: December 11, 2012
Synopsis:
No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Review:

I'm a big fan of the series so I must admit I'm a bit biased because of Daemon *swoon* Black.

I loved him since the first book and I have loved him more in this book. He still has an almighty ego but his affection for Katy is so much sweeter and he's not afraid to show it anymore.*Sigh* He's still overprotective of her and the people he loves.

As for Katy, she became stronger and aware of her power. Despite being busy, she still finds time for her books and reviews. Love her!

The second book ended with Dawson's reappearance. His physical features may be the same but his attitude and personality isn't the old Dawson anymore. He wanted Beth back and he will do anything just for it to happen. As a result of Adam's death, Katy and Dee's relationship took it's toll.

There's a lot more complications in this book. There's the DOD and then other characters' reappearance. The book has definitely more action, suspense and I shouldn't fail to mention the romance and hotness.

I was expecting it to end in a not-so-good-way cliff-hanger type but even with that in mind, I'm still sad and distraught on how the book ended. I so hate Blake!Hate, hate him! Grr!!

The book is fun, like the prequels but more exciting and great twists! I so can't wait for the next book!

BOOK REVIEW: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young (On Dublin Street #1)

Publication Date: August 31, 2012

Review:

I really thought the genre of the book is fantasy and not contemporary. My mistake again.

I find the book really good and entertaining despite the concept being usual and not that unique.

The book has a heartbreaking start which gave me instant empathy towards Jocelyn or Joss. She survived and lived her life independently without the help of others. She has her two bestfriends and that’s it. She has a hard time opening herself to others. So when she moves to another place, she meets Ellie, her new roommate. I shouldn’t fail to mention that this new roommate has a swoon-worthy brother named Braden. Oooh! I love all about him his beautiful and airy self. The spark between them can’t be denied so Braden made a proposition to have friends-with-benefits kind of relationship. And that’s where it all starts, the fun-bickering, the drama, the tears and the laughter.

I love how it was well written and how it progressed. I like how Joss and Braden changed through all that. And I especially love Ellie, Adam, and the therapist too! I like all the characters and I wish there’ll be another book about Joss and Braden because I find it too short! Seriously!

Well, I won’t give you much more details so just read it! Highly recommended!

Memorable Quotes:

“Jealousy is a horrible thing. The pain of it is almost as consuming as heartbreak, and I would know because I was feeling both at the same time. I felt like someone had ripped open my chest with their bare hands, removed my heart and lungs, and replaced them with a bunch of rocks and stones.”

“Regret,Joss. Regret does awful things to a person.”

MY FAVORITE:
"You're letting me go?"
He curled his upper lip, his expression painfully bitter as he took a step back from me.
"Apparently... I never had a hold of you." He turned sharply, and without another word striding down the street into the dark.
Braden never once looked back and that was a good thing.
If he had, he'd have seen Jocelyn Butler crying real tears for the first time in a long time, and he would have known that I'd lied. And lied big. For anyone who saw me, knew they were watching a heart in the process of it breaking.

Review:

The truth is that I'm not a big reader of vampire books. This is just my third series about it. The author generously offered a copy of the book in exchange of my honest review. I've read the blurb and it's quite interesting and I was intrigued so I gladly took it. So here goes.

The book started nicely but I would've liked it much better if I have the visualization of what Sofia looks like and more details on what her life looks like before she was captured.

I had a hard time getting into Sofia's character. I can understand her situation but it seems she lacks personality. Maybe because she wasn't introduced in a way that you can easily remember and relate to. But as the story went on, I eventually understood her better.

Her love interest and the Prince of the Shade is Derek. I was instantly captured by his persona. Even without his good physical features, I like how he's so much like human. He knows how to care and although hes somewhat used to getting what he wants, because of Sofia, he became more understanding.

What I noticed about vampire books is that there will always be wolves involved or something. It's good that in this case, it has a unique plot and characters. I liked how the author described a different world of vampires.

All in all, it was a good read! Refreshing and I wished it was longer!

Review:

I think this is just the second series I've read about demons. The first one is the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins and I loved it.

There is definitely a big difference between these two series. Demon Trapper's Daughter has a unique concept and it'll take you to a world you've never been. While reading the book, there's somewhat an apocalyptic feel to it.

Then, let's get into the characters.
I really had a hard time getting into Riley's character. She's a tough chick, I expected that, like any other heroine from other books I've read. But she's getting into my nerves at times that I became distant to her. I understand her situation and all but..I don't know. Maybe she'll get better in the next book.

Beck, the country guy who's the right hand of his father seems like a good guy but also has his own demons inside. Riley's father treated him as his own child so when he died, he vowed to help Riley anyway he can.

I've been expecting that there'll be some romance between them but someone enters the picture. Simon, another demon trapper. He's religious, definitely a good guy. I like his personality but the romance between him and Riley seems forced to me. I don't like them together. But oh well.

The light of the book is how the author took time with the world- building. I also liked how I became so into the plot that at some point I became emotional.

If you'll ask me if I'll read the second book, DEFINITELY! I just need more from it that's why I just gave it a 3-star. Maybe, give this a try.
